Hang the Bullseye 5 ft 8 in From the Floor
Hang a dartboard with its bullseye 5 ft 8 in (1.73 m) above the floor. Follow these steps to mark, mount and verify the board correctly.
Hang a standard dartboard so the centre of the bullseye is 5 ft 8 in (1.73 m) vertically above the floor. Measure to the bull—not the top or bottom of the board. Darts Australia’s published setup specification also makes clear that the height is taken from floor level at the oche to the centre of the bull (Government of Western Australia).
How to mark the correct height
You need a tape measure, pencil, spirit level and the fixings supplied with the board.
- Choose the throwing position first. If the floor beneath the board and the floor at the oche are at different levels, use the oche floor level as the reference.
- Measure 5 ft 8 in (68 in or 1.73 m) vertically upward. Mark that point lightly on the wall. It represents the bullseye centre after installation.
- Check your mounting system. Do not assume the wall bracket’s edge or screw holes sit at bull height. Follow the board manufacturer’s template so its centre aligns with your mark.
- Fix the bracket securely. Use a wall stud or fixings rated for the wall type and the board’s weight. A common centre-screw-and-bracket system may need adjustment until the board sits firmly without wobbling (GLD Products).
- Hang and rotate the board. Put the black 20 segment at the top, as specified in the published setup rules (Government of Western Australia).
- Verify the installed height. Remeasure from the floor straight up to the exact centre of the bull. Adjust the bracket or centre screw if it is not at 5 ft 8 in.
The checkpoint that prevents a bad setup
Do the final measurement after the board is hanging. The pencil mark only establishes the target; the installed bullseye determines whether the height is correct.
Also check that the board is flat against the wall and does not move when you remove a dart. A slight mounting error repeated over every practice session means you are rehearsing on geometry that will not match a regulation setup.
